Personality Plus!

For those of you who know me well, this is definitely MY daughter!!! I am not a touchy, feely, huggy person and apparently neither is Hollyn! Notice the arms by her side and the less than enthusiastic expression on her face!! I laughed so hard when I saw this picture.

One of my friends recently said this of Hollyn: "She has so much personalilty it is scary!" And my friend was oh, SO right!

Now for a few stories:
This happened today as we were going to church. I usually tell Hollyn where we are going from the minute we start getting ready. However, since we were going to her least favorite place I decided not to spill the beans just yet. As we were driving she kept saying, "Bye-Bye? Bye-Bye?" I calmly affirmed, "Yes, we ARE going bye-bye." I could see her face in the rear view mirror as she continued to assess the situation. Then she started saying, "Where? Where?" (She doesn't quite pronounce the r correctly) I did not answer and her voice continued to get louder and louder. "WHERE? WHERE? WHERE? WHERE?" She did this until I said, "We are going to see your friends." That seemed to satisfy her, until we pulled in the parking lot and she saw the church building!! I just was cracking up because I thought I was outsmarting her. Not so!

A few weeks ago she got out my Bible and started flipping through the pages. She was very excited to "read" it and kept saying, "Bible" and "Jeesaa." (Jesus) She was even saying, "Hooly Bible." I was so proud and thinking what a sweet, and smart child. I then felt the need to say, "Hollyn make sure you are being sweet to the Bible." (Which she had been.) All of the sudden, she looks up at me with a SHEER DEFIANCE in her eyes. I honestly became a little frightened, unsure of what she was about to do next. She yanked up the Bible with one hand, completely wadding up a page and dangling the HOLY BIBLE in the air! I ran across the kitchen, threw my arm out to get it away from her, shouting "NO! NO!" She then proceeded to throw the Bible, with all her 18 month old might, across the kitchen. It hit the wall and landed on the floor. Let's just say mother and child were both a bit traumatized after this event.

I decided to try time out for the first time last week, when Hollyn turned 19 months old. I figured that when your child is screaming at you out of anger and open hand slaps you across the face on purpose, time out is much needed. I was determined to act calm. (Even though my face was seriously stinging!) I got her chair, placed it in the corner and explained the process of time out to this tot. I got the timer and told her that she is to "Stay until the Beep Beep goes off. You will stay there Hollyn." I walked away from her and listened to the screaming and kicking from afar. All of the sudden, she stops and turns around backward in the chair to find me. She got her little finger out and started pointing at me. She then says to me,"Laaablahascopadaada... STAY! Laaablahascopadaada.. STAY! Laaablahascopadaada... STAY!" And she was bobbing her head left and right while she told me off! But hey, she DID stay!! One point for me.

I'm laughing now, but I'm sure you weren't then. That picture sure does prove she is yours! :) I think we've had hugs like that!

I'm dying here I'm laughing so hard!! The picture of her is hilarious! You could write a comedy book of all of the stories about Hollyn and your adventures in motherhood with her! I would love to be a fly on the wall in your house for just one day to see her in action.

To answer your question you left on my blog...
The way I got the words on the picture on my header was using www.picnik.com. I just uploaded the picture, clicked on 'Create' once I had the picture up, then clicked on 'Text'. Then you just save the picture to your computer. It's super easy and free.

These are funny stories! It sounds like you are dealing with a two year old, not a 19 month old! She is just so smart! I am sure everyone tells you that. It sounds like you are starting off right and I am glad she stayed for her first time out :)
