Hollyn Stories

Summer is officially over and I am behind on my blogging! The next two posts will just be some random pictures and stories from this summer so that I don't forget them. Hollyn is 28 months old and acts like she is 4 or 5, and some days 13! We are working on potty training. I really thought this would be easy with her, but she has a mind of her own. Right now we are just trying to go on the potty about 3 or 4 times a day and that is working for us for now. She just broke 25 pounds this month and it looks like she is working on a 2 year molar.

My brother wanted to take pictures of Hollyn one day and she ran to the bathroom to escape him. I think this series of photos is so funny because it is SO HOLLYN!

One afternoon I fixed Hollyn a bowl of mixed snacks and got a yogurt for myself. She said, "I have a snack. Why you not have a snack?" I explained that I did have a snack also. Yogurt was my snack. "That's not a snack!" She declared. So in full teacher mode I replied, "Anything that we don't eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner is called a snack." That explanation seemed to end the conversation. About two minutes later, I see her pick her nose and EAT her booger! I am completely DISGUSTED by this so I react, "Hollyn! That's NASTY! We do NOT eat boogers!" She looked up at me and pointed right at my face and declared, "My booger is a snack!"

We decided to run errands one morning and it wasn't going well. She was tired (as usual) and I knew that we needed to go home. But instead I pressed my luck and took her into a little gymnastics/dance shop. Well as I was looking through the clothes, Hollyn decides that she doesn't like the way they have the clothes hung and starts taking them off and throwing them on the floor. I immediately start sweating and scooping her up, while hanging the clothes back up. She is in FULL protest mode right now and hits me across the head. My sunglasses go flying and the sales lady comes to help me. I practically run out the door and I am LIVID. The whole front of the store is glass and everyone can still see me. I decide to just stay calm while talking to Hollyn. I grab her face and say, "We DO NOT hit!" Well then one of her arms comes flying at me AGAIN! I am so furious, so I put her in the car and she hits me in the face again. That's #3. I choose not to spank her this time because I am so mad I think I could really do some damage. I decided to give her the silent treatment all the way home. Of course I hear this for 10 minutes..."Mommy, Mommy. Mom. Mom. Mom. Jill. Jill. Mommy Jill!"
We pull in the driveway and I look at her and say, "What words do you need to tell me right now for the way you treated me and for hitting?" (Let me stop here and say she FULLY understands the meaning of I AM SORRY and knows that is what she is to say.) So looks at me and ROLLS her 2 year-old and SIGHS, "Mom...It was an accident!"

A message to all my blog readers: You can feel free to pray for me anytime the Spirit leads you! :)

wow wow wow! That girl of yours is feisty!! Again, you had me laughing to tears with these stories! The booger one is my favorite. ha! Good luck with potty training, I hope it goes easier for you than it has been for us. Josiah (he'll be 3 in October) refuses to even sit on a potty now. He's so hard-headed!

Wow, those are really funny stories, and cute pictures!! Hollyn is so wise beyond her years! Just think, this should really come in handy when she's older :) I will pray for your patience. I want Hazel to be more interested in potty training too, but she's not!!

Okay, here's the thing. Our diet affects the way we behave and sometimes our activity level. I think boogers for a snack make her a little violent. What do you think? That was hilarious!! I laughed so hard. Tam
